Technological change, geoeconomic fragmentation, economic uncertainty, demographic shifts, and the green transition – both individually and together – are key forces set to reshape the global labor market by 2030. The Future of Jobs Report 2025 gathers insights from over 1,000 global employers, representing more than 14 million workers across 22 industries and 55 economies. This report explores how these macro trends affect jobs, skills, and the workforce transformation strategies employers will adopt from 2025 to 2030.

The report is very detailed and overlooks a lot of aspects, for my infographic today I picked 7 main topics to visualize from the complete report published by the World Economic Forum – The Future of Jobs Report 2025.

Over the past decade, the World Economic Forum’s bi-annual Future of Jobs Report has tracked shifting technological, societal, and economic trends to understand job disruption and highlight opportunities for workers to transition into future roles.

As we approach 2025, the world of work is changing at an accelerated pace. Breakthroughs in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) are transforming industries and job functions across all sectors. However, these technological advances are intersecting with broader challenges such as economic instability, geoeconomic shifts, environmental issues, and changing societal expectations. In response, the fifth edition of the Future of Jobs Report broadens its scope to provide a detailed analysis of the interconnected trends shaping the global labor market.

By 2030, broadening digital access is expected to be the most transformative trend, with 60% of employers anticipating significant changes to their businesses. Advancements in AI (86%), robotics and automation (58%), and energy technologies (41%) will also be crucial in shaping the future labor market. These technological innovations are expected to create both fast-growing and fast-declining roles, driving demand for skills in AI, big data, cybersecurity, and technological literacy, which are projected to be the top three fastest-growing skills.

The increasing cost of living is another major trend, ranking as the second-most transformative force, with half of employers expecting it to impact their businesses by 2030. While global inflation is expected to decrease, the economic slowdown will still affect job creation, with an estimated loss of 1.6 million jobs worldwide. This slowdown is expected to drive demand for skills like creative thinking, resilience, flexibility, and agility. Additionally, climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts are expected to drive significant job growth in green sectors, including renewable energy, environmental engineering, and electric vehicles.

Demographic shifts are also transforming the global workforce. Aging populations in higher-income economies are driving growth in healthcare jobs, such as nursing professionals while expanding working-age populations in lower-income economies are fueling demand for education-related roles like higher education teachers. Geoeconomic fragmentation and geopolitical tensions will impact business models, with one-third of employers expecting significant changes in the next five years. These shifts are likely to increase demand for security-related roles, as well as skills in leadership, resilience, and flexibility.

Over the 2025-2030 period, job creation and destruction will account for 22% of today’s total jobs.

This will include the creation of 170 million new jobs, offset by the loss of 92 million jobs, resulting in a net increase of 78 million jobs. The largest job growth will be in frontline roles, such as farmworkers, delivery drivers, and construction workers, along with care economy jobs like nursing professionals and personal care aides. Technology-related roles, including AI and machine learning specialists, fintech engineers, and software developers, will experience the fastest growth.

While the demand for new skills will increase, many existing skills will become outdated. On average, 39% of workers’ current skill sets will need to be transformed or updated by 2030. Employers are already prioritizing workforce upskilling and reskilling, with 85% planning to invest in these areas. In addition to technical skills, human-centered skills, such as resilience, creativity, and leadership, will become increasingly important.

The rise of AI will also prompt a shift in the workforce, with 40% of employers expecting to reduce staff where AI can automate tasks.

However, half of employers plan to allocate more revenue to wages by 2030, driven by the need to compete for talent and retain key skills. Companies are also placing a greater focus on employee well-being, with 64% viewing it as a key strategy for attracting talent. Additionally, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are on the rise, with 83% of employers reporting such initiatives in place.

Overall, the labor market of 2030 will be shaped by technological advancements, demographic changes, and shifting global economic conditions. To succeed, employers will need to prioritize skill development, adapt to new technologies, and focus on creating a diverse and resilient workforce.
