We can read it everywhere, but actual visualizing it makes helps us more to understand. As my friend Dieter always says, one picture says more than 100 words. With Smart Cities connectivity it is the same. Telefonica, the Portuguese telecommunication company, and IoT specialist put a nice infographic together which highlights stats to connectivity and smart cities. The future of Smart Cities and their need for solutions is more bright than ever before. While the estimated business with Smart Cities IoT was predicted in 2017 at Euro 361.17 billion, the growth is steady in 2022 the estimates are by Euro 1,021.99 billion and by 2025 Euro 2,085.86. A connection is everywhere, we are talking about 24 billion installed devices, intelligent connected devices which rose by 2020, which reach an investment of Euro 6 trillion. By 2020 10% of smart cities will use streetlamps as the backbone for smart-city WAN. LPWAN market is growing at a CAGR of 90.03% during the forecast period of 2016-2022. The LP-Power WAN (LPWAN) market share is expected to exceed more than $ 25 billion by 2022.

Connectivity with intelligent technologies for Smart Cities, Smart Energy, Smart Transportation are the backbone of a Smart City and Happy Citizen.

Smart Energy will drive revenue from smart energy solutions by Euro 116,43 billion from 2015 to 2024. By 2025 smart energy will make up nearly a quarter of overall smart cities market posting a compound annual growth rate of nearly 29%. Smart Transportation and intelligence transportation market will grow at a CAGR of 18.35% over the period 2013-2018. The volume of intelligent transportation systems will generate Euro 36.57 billion investment by 2022. But based on a sample of the city of Barcelona Telefonica showcases what the future holds with IoT for smart cities. The infographics show the savings which could be achieved with the implementation of IoT. Connected Smart Cities are not only the future, they actually arrived. The infographics summarize all statistics very well for the future of Connected Smart Cities. Leaders in all areas of cities need to look closely into these numbers and see where they can save money for their citizens. Positive samples are all over the planet, Barcelona is only one of them.
